Alberta Ingenuity Centre for In Situ Energy
Established in 2004, based at the University of Calgary and partnered with the Institute for Sustainable Energy, Environment and Economy (ISEEE)., the Alberta Ingenuity Centre for In Situ Energy is unlocking Alberta's oil sands potential. The Centre is opening up Alberta ‘s oil reserves, the world’s second largest, by creating more efficient extraction technologies that are less damaging to the environment.
This pioneering research is enabling Alberta to remain a global energy industry leader, as it has for the past 50 years. Two international science and engineering research experts have come to Alberta to lead this innovation in energy: Dr. Steve Larter and Dr. Pedro Pereira Almao, who were recruited to Alberta through the Ingenuity Scholar’s program. AICISE is also sponsored by Shell, ConocoPhillips, Nexen, Total, Repsol-YPF and Alberta Energy Research Institute (AERI).
