Pedro Pereira-Almao
Alberta Ingenuity Centre for In Situ Energy - Ingenuity Scholar since 2003
Coaxing Alberta's deep reserves of oil to the surface to access 93 per cent more oil.
Pedro was recruited from Venezuala's national oil company where he spent 14 years as R&D leader. He co-invented and coordinated the development of the two major competitive upgrading technologies, named Aquaconversion and HDHplus. He has had seven patents developed from this work in technology commercialization that promote cost-effective conversion of the bitumen and heavy oil reserves in Canada and throughout the world into valuable products.
Dr. Pereira-Almao conducts highly-sensitive research into catalysts to unlock unreachable bitumen. His processes have been successfully tested in the lab, the technology is now being moved into test pilot sites in the field, and into full industry uptake as early as 2009.
