Ingenuity Enterprise
A joint initiative to foster entrepreneurial talent in Alberta and translate new discoveries into useful products and business opportunties.
Alberta Ingenuity, TEC Edmonton and University Technologies International (UTI) joined forces to create the Ingenuity Enterprise program to stimulate entrepreneurial talent in Alberta.This province-wide initiative focuses on the commercialization side of research and translating new discoveries into useful products and business opportunities.
With more than $3.2 million in funding over three years from Alberta Ingenuity, Ingenuity Enterprise will enhance existing programs, create new activities, and provide a province-wide framework to accelerate the vibrant entrepreneurial culture across Alberta.
How Ingenuity Enterprise Works
Ingenuity Enterprise supports the delivery of five similar programs each deployed in North-central and Southern Alberta. The overall Ingenuity Enterprise is managed by TEC Edmonton, UTI and Alberta Ingenuity, but the individual programs are delivered by partner organizations such as the University of Alberta School of Business, the U of A Centre for Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise, THECIS, the University of Calgary Haskayne School of Business, TEC Edmonton, UTI and others.
The individual programs also receive crucial support from other organizations.
Five areas supported by Ingenuity Enterprise:
- Ingenuity Enterprise Executives-in-Residence
This program secures senior-level executives from specific industries (e.g. ICT) to provide intense consultation and advice to technology companies, with a goal to eventually join one growing company as CEO at the end of the term.- Ingenuity Executives-in-Residence (North - delivered by TEC Edmonton)
- Ingenuity Executives-in-Residence (South - delivered by UTI)
- Ingenuity Enterprise Student Entrepreneur Development
- TEC Student Entrepreneurship Program (North) (pilot operational at U of A)
Matches qualified post-secondary students who have a technology business idea with MBA students and experienced professionals in order to move commercially viable technology-based opportunities to market. - UTI-Haskayne School of Business MBA Internship Program (South) (operational)
Helps U of C MBAs provide internship assistance to developing technology companies
