Stephen Larter
Alberta Ingenuity Centre for In Situ Energy - Ingenuity Scholar since 2004
Keeping carbon where it belongs, researching ways to keep refineries in the ground.
• Larter and his team from Newcastle are world experts in crude oil and micro-organisms
• International leader in In Situ microbial agents for catalyzing bitumen – consulted with major oil companies around the world: Hydro, Shell, Maersk
• Larter’s team, working with Dr. Pereira-Almao, is addressing the need to more effectively mine complete reserves
• Alberta holds the largest accumulations of oil on the planet formed from microbial processes, and only 7 to 10 per cent are currently mined – small changes will yield better extraction methods that will be comparable to total reserves of the North Sea
• 95 per cent of future oil will come from reserves already discovered
