Alberta Ingenuity's Alberta Water Research Institute was established in spring 2007 to coordinate world class and leading edge research to support Alberta provincial water strategy, Water for Life: A Strategy for Sustainability
As both a leader and facilitator of knowledge, the Water Institute funds new research and builds on scientific knowledge gained through the Alberta Research Council, the Alberta Ingenuity Centre for Water Research, post-secondary institutions, industry, utility companies, municipalities, water basin councils, water managers and stewardship groups and other Alberta government departments.
Dedicated to seeking the best solutions and ideas, the Institute's scope also includes national and international efforts aimed at ensuring the long term safety, quality and sustainability of Alberta's water resources. As a result, the Alberta Water Research Institute is truly an organization "where ideas flow."
