On January 1, 2010, all Alberta government research funding agencies, including Alberta Ingenuity Fund, became part of Alberta Innovates, which will strengthen the province’s role as a world leader in using science to seek solutions is areas critical to Alberta.

Alberta Innovates - Technology Futures builds on the strengths and successes of the former Alberta Research Council, iCORE, and programs from Alberta Ingenuity and Alberta Advanced Education and Technology, including nanoAlberta and Alberta's Bringing Technology to Market action plan.

Overview

The Alberta Ingenuity Fund was established to develop internationally competitive science and engineering expertise and build greater capacity for innovation, particularly in areas with lasting social and economic impact. The highest calibre of research is supported through an endowment established by the Government of Alberta in 2000. Through this endowment, Alberta Ingenuity is nurturing the discovery of new knowledge and encouraging its application to benefit Albertans and the world.

Endowment Approach

The Alberta Ingenuity endowment fund operates like a trust fund generating income from the invested principal.

Alberta Ingenuity is accountable to Albertans and reports to the Government of Alberta through the Minister of Advanced Education and Technology.
